What if....

WHAT IF…

EVERYONE HAS AN ATTAINABLE “BEST” WEIGHT RANGE based on physical factors such as skeleton size, body type, genetic pre-determined level of fat storage, among others.

STRUGGLE IS NOT NEGATIVE…

it is an engagement in the “process” of changing the weight we no longer wish to be at. A parallel struggle often happens about the general concept of what we, as people, wish to become that differs from what we are at now.

STRUGGLE IS NOT ALWAYS HARD…

As changes become habits, the struggle gets less time and energy consuming. Continuing in the struggle means staying aware of choices and changes.

CONTEXT PLAYS A VITAL ROLE

in what we see as our choices. Our environment has an effect on how and what we do to manage our actions and weight.

THERE ARE SKILLS

anyone can learn to help lose excess weight and manage healthy weight. These skills are easy to learn and take some consistent effort to implement. These skills make the struggle less complex.

AWARENESS IS WHERE TO START…

for change of any kind. We can find better personal solutions when we are aware of our choices, skills, abilities.

HOW WE THINK about weight loss

and management can make the struggle harder or easier. These thoughts can be changed.

CONSENTING TO ASSISTANCE GETS EASIER.

Asking for help and finding the right help is a learnable skill. Important resources and skilled people will rarely offer unsolicited help. Help can come from many unexpected places.

SOCIETY’S FOCUS ON INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXCESS WEIGHT CREATES ANXIETY

for many people. ANXIETY can create an extra barrier to health and weight management. Feeling upset and relaxed at the same time is rarely possible. Allowing ourselves to identify and deal with feelings means we can then let them go and move on to relaxing and enjoying where we are ‘right now’. Pretending we don’t feel something (when we are actually feeling it) simply puts the feeling in storage to be dealt with later. This can be helpful, yet sooner or later the “ocean of emotion” will need attention. There are simple skills to help us do this.

FOCUS ON INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY ALONE

minimizes the context we live in regarding food availability, industrial modification of food, societal body image ideals, costs of living in different environments and many more external factors.

THERE IS A WEIGHT AND FITNESS LEVEL THAT IS “GOOD ENOUGH”

for each of us, and perfection is not the goal. Fitness and good health are goals with purpose. They provide some of the essential conditions for us to lead our best, most active and satisfying life. Tools for healthy body maintenance are tools for life.
